I’m excited to start this research
topic . All of the topics on the “Research paper ideas “ handout seemed very
interesting . But the two topics that stuck out to me the most was Idea number
6 ; Portraying Robots ( or human clones) in film and idea number 3 ;
Evolutionary Psychology and everyday life . Portraying Robots in film caught my
attention because I find it very fascinating how complex these robots or
machines are. I would love to further my knowledge on robots. Also this
research topic will help me get an idea on what the future looks like. It gives
me mix feelings, in being worried or excited on how much electronics is going
to take over everything. We are only getting a snippet of how robots will work
right now, if I do this research topic I would have a good idea on how the
future will really look like. Evolutionary Psychology and everyday life really
caught my eye, just for the simple fact I am a psychology major and I’ve never
heard about “evolutionary psychology” till this semester. I would really enjoy doing this topic because I
feel that is really important how much science and certainty is in psychology that
people don’t notice. This topic would definitely further my knowledge in my
life long future career, and also get better aspects on the controversies that
lie under psychology. I have so much ideas, opinions and questions that I would
love to put all in paper. Just by talking about it I get excited, this idea
will be a good one for me. Well both are pretty interesting; this will be a
tough one.
I
decided to do topic number 2 ; “Evolutionary
psychology and everyday life“ it just makes sense for me to stick to the topic I
am majoring in and I have major
connection with . Now the questions I can answers under this topic is a tough
one to answer but I narrowed it down to two. The Attraction theory and Altruism,
Altruism because I totally believe in the ideas that come with altruism , even
though I am a little skeptical with some ideas under Altruism , this is an
amazing theory that when we look more in depth to it we can understand how it
works in today’s world . Now “Attraction theory “this one just grabbed my brain.
I have been reading about attraction and how it works in the world for about 3
or more years now. It’s a theory I truly believe in, and for the last past year
I’ve been trying to bring it out to my friends, family and even strangers! But I
feel like this research paper will help me bring it out and even help me
understand it way more then I already do, and go in to different aspects under
attraction with evolutionary psychology .
All right, if you do want to work on attraction theory, look up this term in the Gale Virtual Reference Library. It's an established body of research from social psychology NOT a pop psychology kind of idea. For your paper, after describing an area of current attraction theory, you would find two studies using a perspective from evolutionary psychology. What kinds of questions do EP researchers add? What does the perspective from evolution add or explain (and is it valid or not)? You might also use 'the Beauty Goodness myth' as a research term. Why do we think beautiful people are good (and why does Hollywood and children's stories use this myth?) Working on robotics with a particular film in mind is probably easier. It's time to narrow and focus your research topic over the next few days. Hope this helps! --Prof. Dragan
